Poland with Comenius

Poland with Comenius

I came to the Pasaréti secondary school this year and I joined the Comenius program as a new student. I got the opportunity to take part in the Polish project-week between September 29 and October 5.
When I arrived, I was really curious how my host family would be like. Somehow I had the feeling that they would be nice, and I was right. When I got into their car, they immediately asked me if I was hungry and how the journey had been. They asked me so many things that for a few seconds I didn’t know where I was, but of course, after a while I could answer everything. Dominik is an incredibly nice guy, who has a big heart and is very good at music. He spoke also English very well, so we understood each other perfectly. Their home was very friendly, except the wild angry cat, which desperately wanted to get into my room, but eventually, I managed to get along with it as well. The young ‘Chopin’ showed me his talent already that evening, and I have to say that he played really beautifully. After a while we started talking about his future, and I don’t know how, but we ended up discussing my brother’s future as well. After the long talk Dominik and I went around the large stadium which was nearby. While we were waiting for his younger brother returning from a school excursion, we exchanged our opinions about Polish and Hungarian football fans. Finally we went home and had a lovely dinner. I had some delicious meals with them.
The first day of the project was Monday, which we spent at the school. It wasn’t bad, I learned some Polish words, and I could see how the Polish cheer for their team at a competition. The following day in Krakkow was quite good, although I could feel the long walks in my ankle. Still, I really enjoyed the programs, and I had some time to buy some souvenirs for my family and myself. We saw the famous window, which Pope John Paul II had been looking out of, and we learned that he would be canonized in spring. Despite the cold, the weather was nice. We had dinner in a restaurant, where I started to get on well with the representatives of the other countries, who were really nice. Wednesday was a special day for me, because first, I made friends with the others in Katowice, and, on the other hand, I felt that our friendship was strengthened in Auschwitz.
The visit at the Auschwitz museum was interesting and shocking at the same time. It was truly an experience never-to-be-forgotten. I still don’t know how the tourist guides can work there. On Thursday, we went to Czestochowa, where we saw one of Europe’s most well known Virgin Mary depictions, the Black Madonna in the basilica. The sanctuary is at a beautiful place. First, we were shown around by a local priest, who was talking really fast. After half an hour we got another guide, who spoke English really clearly and nicely. It was still this day when I – a proud harmonica player – go the chance to listen to Furkan’s, a Turkish boy’s disastrous performance, which I commented with a simple ’Oh My God’. On Friday, we went to the Guido coal mine in Zabrze, which I found especially interesting, even though I already knew a lot of things, because that was not the first time I had visited a mine. We also got to wear a yellow helmet here as well.
After the visit in the mine we had lunch at the same restaurant as on the first day, and the food was again delicious. I have never had problems with the food, I always finished my portion. Later we went to a shopping centre with Dominik, where I bought a hat. The last party was extremely good. I danced so much that I could barely walk the following day. I must say that I really had a good time! J All in all, it was an unforgettable journey, with lots of new friends and some amazing, adventurous days I will never forget. It was a good decision to join the Comenius project week in Poland.

Orsi's review of the Comenius week in Spain

This was my very first time that I travelled abroad in frame of the Comenius Project. Our destination was Benidorm , where we have enjoyed the hospitality of our Spanish partners.
My host family was very kind and I felt myself completely at home at their place. During this week we have visited many cities, including Valencia, Alicante or Albir. Fortunately the weather was always warm and nice which made our excursions that more enjoyable. My favorite tour when we climbed into the huge cave of Albir. The view from there was fantastic. During the trip great friendship were made. I really hope that we will be able to keep up this good relationship we have established for a very long time.

Bálint's review of the Comenius week in Hungary

In my opinion this event was very short to me. I found it very helpful and you could improve your knowledge. I really liked the places we visited, I had a strange feeling like I was abroad. I had the opportunity to learn cultural things about people from other countries. I guess Lionel enjoyed it and we got on well from the beginning. I did not have any problem with this whole one week. We were like a family so I am looking forward to travelling to Benidrom, Spain. I hope that this trip will be good as well or maybe better but we will see.

Orsolya's review of the Comenius week in Hungary

This was the first time I participated in such a meeting. It was really exciting to take part in many different and interesting programs. One of my favourite excursions was when we went on a boat tour at night on river Danube. It was great to meet so many new people and to have the opportunity to practise my English and Spanish language skills. On the next occasion we will travel to Spain, to which I’m really looking forward. Hopefully, we will enjoy our stay there as well, and have just as a good time as we had here in Hungary.

Janka & Zsófi's review of the Comenius week in Hungary

The Comenius in Hungary was really fun. The programs were really good, but also really tiring. We met a lot of new people and made some friends. We got to see new thing and places we've never been to. Our favorite program was when we went to Buda-Castle and had to find things. It was good because every one participated and it was all about teamwork. We think we all had a great time and, we hope that Spain will be even better!

Lili's review of the Comenius week in Hungary

We organized this week, so it’s hard to write about what was our impression… I think we could take the students/teachers to good and interesting programmes. I heard that they enjoyed the programmes, and they just had problems with the food. The first day, when we visited the castle, there took place a competition and also we could see the beautiful view. This was my favourite day. On Tuesday we travelled around Budapest, and visited the famous sights. There we(students) had to say informations about the different places, so we were the tourist guides. I was really nervous when I had to talk about my sights, so I made a lot of mistake… I didn’t go to the programmes on Wednesday. But on Thursday I went with the Comenius team to Szentendre and to Visegrád. In my opinion the only good thing in this day was the bob sledging and the somlói galuska. I enjoyed Friday very much, because we went to Normafa and we ate rétes… and travelling with the libegő was fascinating too. I couldn’t go to the dinners because they were too late in the evening/night. Summerizing, I think I spent a great time with friends and with my teachers.

Turkey...

Turkey was amazing! People there were so open and nice with us. We learned about their culture a lot and it was really interesting! We went to the small village so I am pretty sure Istambul would be so different. They brought us to a lot of beautiful places, and gave us a lot of love. Thank you again:)

More experiences

Turkey was a great experience for me. I've been to Turkey a lot, but I have never seen this side of it. I got to see the culture a lot better.
It was worth traveling a lot in the buses to see all the beautiful places.
It was fun when we picked up the trash near the lake, because we laughed a lot and I almost fell in the lake a few times:)
I made lot of pictures, and when I look at them all the good memories come to my mind;)
I had 2 dogs in Turkey, 2 puppies:) There was something in them that reminded of my dog! I love animals so...;)
There were some negative things but those don't matter. ;) If we look at the positives it was a great event. :D

Turkey from my view

I really enjoyed it. I was in Turkey for the first time. It was great to meet new people and get a taste of Turkish culture. We travelled a lot and I saw many beautiful new things. The common language of the project is English so it was good to use it. I had taken more than a thousand photos and when I looked at them, beautiful memories came to my mind. I am looking forward to seeing all the partners in March in Hungary.

Project-meeting, Turkey

Hear are some experiences how we feel after project meeting in Turkey, Kütahya:

Before Turkey:
Once I have been to Turkey but in the north part of it, so I’m interested in the city. I hope I can make new friends too. And I read that we are going to learn about how to take good pictures and I think I should improve my skills in taking pictures. And of course I want to learn language.
After Turkey:
I enjoyed the time in Turkey, the best was that weather was very warm. I thought we will go to Istanbul but we went to Kütahya. It is a little and lovely town. We didn’t go to school and didn’t learn (how I expected). We just took part in an English lesson what was held by Hakan and learnt a little bit about Turkish culture. We went sightseeing what I enjoyed very much. We visited a big tree and I climbed up on it. We also visited temples and museums. It was interesting that girls and women wore scarf on their head. We could go in a mosque near to a bazaar in Bursa, here we bought scarfs. Turkish students were very friendly and they wanted to have conversation with us even if some of them couldn’t really speak English. We didn’t have a kind of lesson about taking pictures but I took a lot so I practised. It was a surprise for us that we went to the Kossuth museum, it was really kind of Hamza and the other teachers.  I met new people and made some friends and I met Vincenzo, of course, who is the best photographer I have ever known. I love Turkish food, my favourite is baklava but sometimes I had stomach ache of it.
